Job Description
Hours of Work Available:                           Approx. 8 hours a week during term time which may include weekends. Additional hours may be available at busy periods. Some hours will also be available outside of term time. 
Current rate of Pay:  £9.76 per hour (including holiday pay)
Date of Interview:  w/c 20th May 
 
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Global Recruitment Office for current Lancaster students to become ambassador leaders for the next academic year 2019/20.



Major Duties:

  • To supervise and act as a mentor to student ambassadors and to lead by example, delivering consistently good service and encouraging the ambassador team to do the same;
  • To provide professional and outstanding campus tours to prospective students and their parents;
  • To assess and coach ambassadors on their ability to deliver great quality campus tours;
  • To provide excellent customer service whilst operating the front of house of the Welcome Centre, dealing with student and visitor queries, whether face to face, by telephone and email or web and social media;
  • To monitor the Visit Us email account, responding to emails and setting up ad hoc tours for International and UK students where required;
  • To provide administrative support for staff;
  • To work as part of a team to support regular event activity including setting up and packing down of equipment;
  • To assist with appropriate events to support the student recruitment process in a supervisory role, e.g. Applicant Visit Days, Undergraduate Open Days;
  • To deliver student life presentations and take part in student Q and A sessions;
  • To act as an Ambassador for the University, promoting its ethos, opportunities and services and enhancing its reputation at events and to share positive experiences of, and enthusiasm for, Higher Education and Lancaster University specifically at events and activities throughout the year;
  • To support Outreach and Widening Participation events and tasks where required;
  • To be involved in the development and delivery of ambassador training;
  • To engage with prospective students via approved social media channels;
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required by the GRO team.

Person specification:

  • Registered as a current Lancaster University student (Essential)

Experience

  • Of supervising and/or mentoring others and providing advice and guidance (Essential)
  • Of liaising with students, staff members and external individual (Essential)
  • Of Lancaster University including the campus, systems, facilities and student life (Essential)
  • Of providing effective administrative support, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular use of Word, Excel, email and Internet  (Essential)
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment and providing excellent customer service (Desirable)

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to delegate, use initiative and motivate (Essential)
  • Excellent face to face, telephone, electronic and written  communication and interpersonal skills (Essential)

Application 

Applicants must be available to start working from June 2019 and be available to work until summer 2020. Candidates will be expected to work all Open Days throughout summer and Applicant Visit Days where possible between January and March, as well as picking up general Welcome Centre shifts throughout the year.


Interviews will be taking place week commencing 20th May and will involve both a group and individual element.

If successful, you will need to attend a compulsory training session on Monday 24th June, 5-8pm, as well as a training weekend on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October.
