Hours of Work Available:                           As required for weekly campus tours and events. Additional hours may be available at busy periods. Some hours will also be available outside of term time. 
Current Rate of Pay:       £8.21 + £0.99 holiday pay = £9.20 per hour

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the University's Global Recruitment Office (GRO) Student Ambassador team. GRO are looking for around 50 ambassadors to join their existing team, and are looking for friendly, reliable and engaging students with a real passion for Lancaster University to deliver campus tours and work various events engaging with prospective students throughout the year such as Open Days and Applicant Visit Days.

Major Duties:

  • To provide consistently great quality campus tours to prospective students and their parents;
  • To share positive experiences of, and enthusiasm for, Higher Education and Lancaster University specifically at events and activities throughout the year;
  • To act as an Ambassador for the University, promoting its ethos, opportunities and services and enhancing its reputation at events.
  • To answer any questions visitors may have professionally and positively and share personal experiences of life in Lancaster;
  • To have good knowledge of Lancaster University and be able to share this knowledge with visitors;
  • To support and assist at events where required, e.g. Open Days; Applicant Visit Days; HE fairs; UCAS fairs; student life talks etc.;
  • To work as part of a team and lead by example, delivering consistently good service;
  • To support Outreach and Widening Participation events and tasks where required;
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required by the GRO team.

Person Specification:

  • Registered as a current Lancaster University degree student
  • Experience of liaising with students, staff members and external individuals
  • Good knowledge of Lancaster University including the campus, systems, facilities and student life
  • Experience of providing effective administrative support, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular use of Word, Excel, email and the Internet
  • Experience of providing advice and guidance
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment and providing excellent customer service
  • Excellent face to face, telephone, electronic and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • Desire and ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Engaging personality and ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and ages
  • Ability to solve problems and think creatively
  • Flexible in working a variety of shifts and adaptable to working with a range of people on a range of tasks
  • Must be able to display respect of others and can lead by example
  • Committed to the task in hand and displays reliability, i.e. punctuality; getting tasks done and motivating self

Applicants must be available to start working from June 2019 and be available to work until at least summer 2020. Candidates will be expected to work all Open Days throughout summer and Applicant Visit Days where possible between January and March, as well as picking up general campus tours shifts throughout the year.

Group interviews will be taking place week commencing 27th May. If you get through this stage you may be invited to go to a short individual interview later that week.

If successful, you will need to attend compulsory training either on:

  • Monday 3rd June (5pm – 8.30pm)
  • Tuesday 4th June (2pm – 5.30pm)
