Job Description
The Student Registry are currently recruiting a number of Invigilators to join our bank of staff supporting the Examinations Team for the extremely busy 2019 assessment period that runs from April - June.
 
Job Title:   Exam Invigilator - Main Venues
Pay Rate:   £8.64 + £1.04 holiday pay, £9.69 per hour in total
Working Pattern:   Flexible, part-time up to full-time hours depending on availability
Mandatory Training Event:   11th April 2019
 
 

As an Invigilator you will work as part of a team to ensure that examinations run smoothly and in accordance with Lancaster University guidelines. Ideal candidates will be committed team players and have a professional attitude.

The work will be varied with hours split into two daily sessions (Monday to Fridays with some Saturdays during the peak of the exam season).

Examinations take place across Lancaster’s Bailrigg campus and you may be required to travel quickly between venues to ensure that examination schedules are adhered to.

Full time and part time / casual applicants are welcome.

No prior experience is required as training will be provided, however candidates with previous experience of working in Higher Education or with invigilation experience will be prioritised.

These positions are not open to current Lancaster Undergraduate (UG) or Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students but we welcome applications from Postgraduate Research Students.  

Duties:

  • Working as part of a team of invigilators in a range of exam venues, led by a Senior Invigilator.
  • Setting up examination venues.
  • Invigilating the examination and monitoring for irregularities.
  • Collecting materials at the end of examinations.
  • Dealing with problems and queries in accordance with set guidelines.
  • Supporting students with additional requirements where required.
  • Ensuring the security of the exam material at all times.

Person Specification:

  • Excellent command of the English Language (spoken and read).
  • Able to maintain focus and concentration for a number of hours.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
  • A sympathetic approach to dealing with issues in a sensitive yet firm manner.
  • Ability to work to defined procedures.
  • Utmost reliability and punctuality.
  • Flexible approach to work.

The pay rate for the academic year is £9.69 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay). Invigilators are appointed on temporary contracts with no guarantee of hours.

Training and the completion of an online assessment will be compulsory for both new applicants and returning invigilators.
