Lancaster Environment Centre are looking to appoint a knowledgeable and motivated Schools Outreach Assistant graduate intern to coordinate an on-going review into the outreach activities and opportunities it offers to schools.

Pay rate: £19,202 pro rata (£10.08 per hour + £1.22 holiday pay = £11.30 per hour)

Working Pattern: Full time

Placement length: 8-12 weeks

Outreach activities are managed by the Outreach Committee, and delivered by academic staff as well as number of paid undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students.

During this internship, you will lead a project reviewing outreach activities offered to schools. This will involve analysing the department’s recent Outreach Report findings, which identified areas where the department could improve their outreach activities portfolio. Additionally, you will liaise with external contacts to gain their insight, specifically what activities they would like and what times of the year is best.

You will also be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering a number of outreach events in early 2019. The department invites target schools from across the North West to bring their year 10-12 Biology and/or Geography students to Lancaster University to take part in a range of curriculum-focused activities.

Over the period of the internship, the post holder will:

  • Analyse the Outreach Report findings and contact external contacts to find out what activities or resources the department could provide them, which would be beneficial.
  • Lead a comprehensive review into the outreach activities the department should offer to schools and produce a document, for the Outreach Committee, outlining suggested and requested activities linked to the curriculum.
  • Successfully plan and deliver a number of outreach events for years 10 -12 students.

Person Specification:

  • Evidence of having worked as part of a team
  • Evidence of some experience of event planning
  • Able to manage a varied workload and manage time effectively to deal with multiple projects
  • Able to meet stringent deadlines
  • Educated to A Level (or higher) in Geography and/or Biology (desirable but not essential)
