Job Description

A skilled graphic designer with basic Android development experience is sought to work with Computer Science researchers on enhancing the interface and usability of existing Android apps. This is an urgent job with a quick turnaround timescale. Approximately 25-30 hours are allocated for this job.

Major duties:

  • Design of vector imagery and iconography, following Material Design guidelines
  • User interface and interaction design and development of existing Android apps.
  • Face-to-face meetings or interactions (in Lancaster), or via Skype, with the app development team.

Person Specification:


Essential/ Desirable

Educated to A-level or equivalent qualification or work experience in a relevant area – a portfolio of previous work will support previous work experience.


Experience with raster and vector graphic design software packages such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (or similar).


Basic Android development experience (Java and/or Kotlin). Specifically, Android User Interface (UI) design and development skills, following best practices (e.g. accessibility and Material Design).


Experience of Interaction Design / User Experience Design (UX)


Able to work effectively with technical and non-technical people in the University.


Excellent verbal communication


Enthusiasm, attention to detail and a demonstrated capability for problem solving


Access to a personal computer or laptop


Experience of working within Agile software development teams


Experience in using distributed version control systems, particularly Git.
