Job Description

Lancaster University’s Global Experiences (GE) team has an exciting opportunity for Lancaster University students to become Global Experiences Student Ambassadors.  GE is looking for 6 friendly, reliable and engaging students with a real passion for Global Experiences to support and facilitate various events engaging with students throughout the year. Suitable candidates must be current Lancaster students who have studied abroad as part of their Lancaster degree for a semester or a year and/or taken part in a Global Experiences vacation programme.

Pay rate: £7.94 + £0.96 holiday pay = £8.90 per hour
Closing Date: 23 September 2018
Interview Date: 5 October 2018
Compulsory Training Dates: Monday 29th October (5pm – 8.30pm) OR Tuesday 30th October (2pm – 5.30pm)
Duration: 2018/19 academic year

Job Purpose
• To encourage participation in all Global Experiences programmes
• To support the delivery of a variety of Your Global Experience Events for the purpose of promoting a suite of overseas programmes and study abroad opportunities
• To attend Applicant Visit Days to promote overseas programmes and study abroad opportunities
• To provide administrative support during peak times of the academic year, involving support and conversion calls to students interested in Global Experience opportunities

Major Duties
• To support with marketing and conversion activities for vacation programmes and study abroad, which includes creating and facilitating events
• To support the Study Abroad Welcome Week in January.
• To support visiting students during the academic year
• To represent the Global Experiences opportunities at Applicant Visit Days (includes some Saturdays) and other events on campus that could take place in the day or evening
• To conduct ad hoc campus tours for Global Experiences visitors
• To act as an Ambassador for the University, promoting its ethos, opportunities and services and enhancing its reputation at events
• Any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Global Experiences team. This may include basic administrative tasks, such as filing, updating documentation and mailing of literature to overseas partners

Person Specification:
• Registered as a current Lancaster University degree student
• Knowledge and personal experience of the Study Abroad, Exchange, Global Experiences vacation programmes or Erasmus+ programmes
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in face to face, telephone, electronic and written communication.
• Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
• Experience of liaising with students, staff members and external individuals
• Good knowledge of Lancaster University including the campus, systems, facilities and student life
• Experience of providing effective administrative support, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and social media platforms
• Experience of working in a customer facing environment and providing excellent customer service
• Desire and ability to work accurately under pressure both independently and as part of a team
• Engaging personality and ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and ages
• Ability to solve problems and think creatively
• Flexible in working a variety of shifts and adaptable to working with a range of people on a range of tasks
• Must be able to display respect to others and can lead by example
• Committed to the task in hand and displays reliability, i.e. punctuality; getting tasks done and motivating self
