Job Description

The Nine Colleges launched an annual inter-college quiz competition (based on University Challenge) in 2015/6.  We are looking for two people to help organise and run the quiz alongside College Managers for the coming academic year, to start in week 2/3, October 2017.  The final will be held in week 14 (early February) and there will be peaks of time needed in weeks 3-9 then weeks 11-13 including attendance at the events which are anticipated will take place early evening.

Rate of Pay: National Minimum Wage/ National Living Wage dependent on age
Hours of work: approximately 6 hours per week flexibly agreed, for a 12 week period
Working dates: week 3- week 14
Location of Work: Lancaster University

Main Duties

  • Assist in the co-ordination and delivery of preliminary, semi-final and final rounds of the Inter-collegiate Quiz Competition

  • Assist in the organisation of the quiz questions, following up with departments and staff volunteers to assemble a question bank;

  • Work with college JCR teams as required to facilitate the assembly of College teams;

  • Support the promotion of the competition across the university;

  • Liaise with College JCR teams, LUSU, Alumni & Development, academic departments in ensuring all resources required are delivered in a timely fashion;

  • Assist in the development of a consistent approach to each quiz event including working with quiz masters;

  • Attend & assist in the management and co-ordination of the events themselves (including room booking; preparation of venue & practical organisation on the day);

  • Produce a report when the competition is finished;

  • Other duties, as may be required, to ensure the quiz competition is a success (as directed by Competitions Coordinator and/or College Managers).

    Skills Required

  • Ability to engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences

  • Ability to plan, develop and maintain a range of activities and events

  • A proactive and creative approach to project work and problem solving

  • IT literacy, some experience of working with social media and blogs

  • Excellent communicator, strong organisation and time management skills

  • Able to work independently and flexibly to meet project requirements

  • Knowledge of, and interest in, quizzes like University Challenge would be of benefit
