Role & Department Overview

The Global Experiences team has an exciting opportunity for Lancaster University students to become a Global Experiences Student Ambassador for 2026/27.The role plays an important part in the Global Experiences team as we promote the opportunities available to Lancaster students, both at events prior to students' arrival at the university, as well as an array of activities for Lancaster students interested in the programmes offered by Global Experiences.

Furthermore, the role will support incoming exchange students during sessions and events throughout the year. In particular, the Global Experiences Ambassadors play an important role with the incoming student Welcome Week in January 2027, helping students settle in and feel at home by organising and hosting events across the week.

Suitable candidates should have experience of studying overseas, either for a term or full year with the Study Abroad programme, or a short-term vacation or summer school at an overseas university.

Preferred start date: 12th of November 2026

Expected end date: 30th of September 2027

Interview date: 3rd of November 2026

Hours: Approx. 20 per term

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

  • To encourage participation in Global Experiences programmes.
  • To discuss and promote overseas programmes, including Study Abroad and short-term opportunities, at on-campus events including Open Days and Offer Holder Events, assisting with information stands and presentations to visitors.
  • To provide admin support during peak times of the academic year.
  • To support the Study Abroad Welcome Week for incoming exchange students in January 2027.
  • To conduct ad hoc campus tours for visitors.
  • To support events for incoming and outgoing students, including creation, attendance and facilitation.
  • To support the Global Experiences team with social media and content creation.
  • To act as an ambassador for the University, promoting its ethos, opportunities and services and enhancing its reputation at events.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge and/or personal experience of the Study Abroad programme and/or the short-term opportunities available to Lancaster students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in face to face, virtual and written communication.
  • Excellent presentation and public-speaking skills
  • A good level of motivation and the ability to use initiative and work independently.
  • Appreciation of the importance of cultural diversity and intercultural competence.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good knowledge of Lancaster University, including the campus and student life.
  • IT skills and an interest and/or experience in social media.
