The Creative Studio is Lancaster University's busy in-house design, print, photography and digital media service. We work with departments across the University, as well as external clients, delivering high-quality creative solutions that help bring ideas to life.

About the Role

 We are looking for a proactive and customer-focused individual to join our friendly and experienced team on a 12-week contract.

This varied role combines account management, customer support and creative project coordination. You will act as a first point of contact for customers, helping to manage enquiries, coordinate projects and support the delivery of a wide range of print and digital design services.

The role plays an important part in ensuring creative projects are delivered efficiently, providing excellent customer service while helping to manage client accounts and studio workflows.

Job Description

Major Duties:

  • To deliver high quality, customer focused design under the direction of the senior designer
  • To support in the delivery of high quality customer focused design which supports the commercialisation of print and photography services at Lancaster University. The production of suitable design and print solutions to support facilities, commercial services and the wider university
  • To work as part of Design, Photography & Print team, delivering high quality design to a range of internal customers within the University including the wider Facilities team.
  • To support the commercialisation of print and photography at the university
  •  Undertake, design, image processing, prepress and production work for Lancaster University Design, Photography & Print and their clients
  • To support and enhance the effective promotion and communication of commercial services and facilities through the production of appropriate materials under the direction of the with senior designer
  • Manage design and photographic jobs from concept to completion in a cost effective and professional manner
  • Respond to customer inquiries, interpreting their requirements, providing expert advice on the full scope of all in-house and out-sourced services giving full consideration to costs and value for money.
  • Actively promote, market and champion Design, Photography and Print services to all existing and potential customers
  • Any other duties commensurate with grade including deputising for the senior designer in his absence.
  • Maintenance of confidentiality of information; it will be necessary to comply with requirements related to the Data Protection Act.
  • At all times to carry out your responsibilities with due regard to the University’s code on Equality and Diversity and University Health and Safety Codes of Practice
  • To undertake any necessary training and development

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
  • HND qualification or higher in Graphic Design.
  • Demonstrable experience working in a design studio environment, with a good understanding of pre-press and commercial print production workflows.
  • Excellent Mac and PC skills, with experience using industry-standard design software.
  • Strong graphic design, typography and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions from concept through to final production, delivering work on time and within budget.
  • Experience of organising and prioritising work effectively to meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high attention to detail.
Desirable Criteria
  • An understanding of the varied activities and requirements within a university environment.
  • Experience of designing for digital channels, including websites, email campaigns and other online communications.
