Role & Department Overview

The Conferences and Events + department is in charge of organising conferences for internal and external customer all year round on campus and in other venues such as Forrest Hills and the Castle. We also have 80 guest rooms located in County that we manage like a hotel. In addition, outside of term time we also use student accommodation and manage up to 1000 bedrooms. We meet many different customers daily and answer any queries.

 
Pay Rate: £12.96 basic rate + £1.56 holiday pay
 

Preferred start date: Thursday 1 October 2026 

Expected end date: Friday 1 October 2027 

Location: Lancaster University campus 

Hours per week: Evenings and weekends depending on business demand. 

Job Description

Tasks will typically include:
  
  • To create a welcoming and friendly environment for all visitors and colleagues across the Conferences and Events + business. 

  • To assist the team to ensure a consistent, high level of service throughout the customers' time with Lancaster Conferences+, Food & Dining and Guest Rooms. 

  • To answer customer queries about Guest rooms and process their bookings (training provided) in a timely manner 

  • To check the bedrooms across campus before the arrival of customers.  

  • To cover conferences areas during events (training provided). 

  • To be available for work in all conference areas as business demands – evenings and weekends during term time and weekdays, evenings and weekends out of term. 

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:
  
  • Be confident, self-motivated and present a professional persona in all circumstances.  

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Be able to demonstrate a strong customer service ethos and the ability to deliver consistently high levels of service standards. 

  • Have great attention to detail when carrying out tasks. 

  • To be available for work in all conference areas as business demands, including evenings and weekends.  

  • Be available evenings and weekends during term time and weekdays, evenings and weekends out of term. 

  • Be able to commute to Lancaster University campus.
