Role & Department Overview

The School of Global Affairs is looking for a Student Communications Intern to help us improve and coordinate communications with our students. The intern will work with staff across the School to identify relevant events, opportunities, activities and information and help turn this into clear and engaging communications.

We are particularly interested in hearing from students who can bring their own ideas about how we could communicate more effectively with the School's student community.

Pay Rate: £12.71 per hour plus £1.53 holiday pay

Start Date: 5th October 2026

End Date: 25th June 2027

Job Description

  • Identify and gather events, opportunities and activities relevant to Global Affairs students.
  • Help create and coordinate regular communications for students.
  • Write, edit and format short pieces of student-facing content.
  • Work with staff across the School and University to gather information and ensure communications are accurate and timely.
  • Help organise and prioritise information so that communications are clear and easy to engage with.
  • Create student-facing content for a range of different media platforms.
  • Bring a student perspective to how the School communicates with its students.

Person Specification

  • Has good written communication skills and can write clearly for a student audience.
  • Is organised and able to manage small tasks and deadlines.
  • Is comfortable with social media and has experience in developing a range of different forms of content
  • Has an eye for interesting opportunities and information that students might find useful.
  • Is confident communicating with staff and asking questions when they need information.
  • Can use their initiative and work independently, while knowing when to seek support.
  • Is interested in communications, marketing, social media or creating engaging content.
  • Has a good understanding of what makes information useful and engaging to students.
