The project is a collaboration between Chinese Studies/the Confucius Institute, School of Global Affairs at Lancaster University, the Department of International Chinese Education at Xidian University and Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum in Xi’an, China. It aims to raise levels of China literacy and enhance intercultural attitudes and skills among UK students. It will deliver two educational cultural heritage livestreams from the Museum to primarily secondary school student audiences in the UK. Additionally, it will provide pre- and post-livestream Chinese language and culture digital educational resources to complement the livestreams.
As part of this project, we are looking for a digital resources developer to devise and create digital educational resources that support the study of Chinese language and culture, in consultation with the project partners. This will include the use of generative AI.
The digital resources should include interactive learning activities, such as AI-enhanced educational games, short videos, as well as more conventional textual formats. The resources must support the educational aims of the project.
The expected deliverables for this role include:
- Creating engaging digital education resources for UK secondary school student audiences for use pre-/during/post-livestreams.
- Co-developing and implementing methods of evaluating the impact of the digital resources on the levels of China literacy, intercultural attitudes, and intercultural skills among UK secondary school students who participate in the project.
- Contributing feedback on the effectiveness of the resources in raising China literacy levels, intercultural attitudes, and intercultural skills.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to apply AI skills in education resources design, advanced Chinese language skills and relevant knowledge of Chinese culture. It is desirable to have an understanding of qualitative research methods and impact evaluation techniques. A good candidate would be proactive, able to work collaboratively with the project partners, and have an interest in applying AI in educational projects.
This role is advertised on a part-time basis, with the aim to complete 18 hours per week. The work can be remote or in-person. This arrangement is flexible, with the expectation that the successful candidate will have other responsibilities they need to fit around this role (e.g. studying).
