Role & Department Overview

The Student Wellbeing Partnership Service offers early intervention support to help students develop social networks, access University life and build confidence and skills to manage their wellbeing. The team offers a range of provision designed to support students, including 1:1 wellbeing advice, wellbeing projects, social events, workshops and pre-arrival support.

As a Student Wellbeing Ambassador, you will work in partnership with our team to help students build an understanding of Wellbeing Servicesand how to access support.You will offer knowledge, experience, practical and social support, information, tips and signposting on a range of wellbeing issues, through in-personactivities and events, the development of digital resources and awareness campaigns.You will also be involved in creating content for social media and other online platforms.

To undertake the role, you will be required to complete a blend of online / in-person training and engage in supervision to support you throughout the academic year.

The Student Wellbeing Ambassador role is made available through Widening Participation funding; therefore, we actively welcome applications from a wide range of students including those who are neurodiverse, independent students (care experienced, care leavers, estranged students), mature students, students with disabilities, international students and Black, Asian, and Ethnic Minority students.

Job Description

  • Providing knowledge, information and signposting to new students that supports them to access relevant university opportunities and services.
  • Co-creating and featuring in video content for relevant wellbeing campaigns, including content for social media and other online platforms. These videos will cover a range of topics related to student wellbeing at Lancaster. 
  • Co-facilitating social events and wellbeing workshops (with Student Wellbeing Advisors) which provide opportunities for students to connect with one another and practice wellbeing management skills. 
  • Providing insights and feedback to the Student Wellbeing Advisors to inform and guide decision making within the Student Wellbeing Partnership Service, including service offer.
  • Reporting accurately and in a timely manner on activities undertaken to support supervision, service development and safe working practices. 
  • Attending and actively engaging with all training and supervision required for the role. 
  • Acting as an ambassador for Wellbeing Services and the University, promoting its ethos and values, opportunities and services and working in line with Wellbeing Services policies and processes.
  • Supporting the operation of the ASK Desk in the Student Centre and Welcome Hub, liaising directly with students, helping to answer their queries and representing the student face of Wellbeing Services in a professional manner.
  • Providing 1:1 support to empower students to navigate the campus environment, build social networks, develop their knowledge and practical skills for university life (e.g. how to access / use laundry facilities, collect a parcel etc.), access university facilities to establish healthy routines (e.g. Student Union activities, Sport Lancaster etc.) and access wider university services (e.g. Learning Development, Careers Service etc.)
  
Hours of work:
  • Each ambassador is funded to provide up to 24 hours of engagement activity across the academic year. This will be delivered between 9-5pm, Monday-Friday throughout termtime, or as agreed with the Student Wellbeing Partnership Service.
  • The minimum availability requirement is 2hrs availability per week. Student Wellbeing Ambassadors can request to work above this requirement subject to agreement with the Student Wellbeing Partnership Service.
 
Pre-interview Task:
  • If you are selected to attend an interview, you will be asked to complete a pre-interview task which should take you a maximum of 30 minutes.

Person Specification

Registered as a Lancaster University student in 2026/27 (essential). 
 
 
Qualifications:
  •  Qualifications / experience relating to mentoring or supporting others (Desirable) 
  • Qualifications / training relating to supporting people with Autism, mental health difficulties, and other disabilities (Desirable)
 
 Experience:
  •  Of the challenges of transition and study within university and an understanding of the unique experience of underrepresented student groups (Essential) 
  • Of working with individuals in a supportive, coaching or mentoring capacity (Desirable) 
  • Of working with people with a variety of needs, including those with disabilities and individuals who experience social isolation (Desirable)
  •  Of creating video content and / or promotional material for use online (Desirable)
 
 Skills and Abilities:
  •  Ability to communicate effectively with others, including adapting communication style to a range of audiences (for example staff, different student groups and parents/guardians) (Essential) 
  • Ability to consistently follow processes, work within boundaries and be organised (Essential)
