Role & Department Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for the coordination of a project to develop video material to market Lancaster University degree courses. Working as a member of the Marketing Office, you will work closely with staff from a range of areas across the University, along with a professional videographer, to develop promotional shorts and digital taster content for postgraduate programmes.

Job Description

  • Work closely with programme and faculty staff to identify programme USPs and key target markets
  • Undertake basic storyboarding and scripting to plan how key messages will be conveyed to the target audience;
  • Support with writing a creative brief that communicates the University’s requirements, deliverables and deadlines clearly to the videographer;
  • Identify staff and students to appear in the videos and develop individual schedules according to the videographer’s and your own availability;
  • Organise and undertake recces of filming locations across campus;
  • Arrange briefing and payment of student workers as required;
  • Book appropriate rooms for shoots and arrange parking and refreshments as required;
  • Act as the videographer’s assistant on shoot days, coordinating staff and students, and checking the content captured is on-brand and compliant with advertising standards (training will be provided);
  • Undertake email liaison with videographers, supplying brand assets and additional B-roll footage as necessary;
  • Review all supplied edits, ensuring they meet the creative vision, collating feedback from teaching and professional service staff; 
  • Ensure all video content meets University accessibility and house-style requirements (for example transcribing and captioning videos);
  • Maximise potential return on investment for the University though planning how content can be repurposed e.g. collecting written student testimonials, stills from video footage, requesting footage is re-cut for social media etc.

Person Specification

  • Experience of organising professional photography or videography shoots, preferably in a marketing capacity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate face-to-face and by email with tact and diplomacy
  • Project management skills with demonstrable evidence of undertaking complex scheduling
  • A strong attention to detail with an ability to present information in an accurate and appropriate format
  • The ability to solve problems with own initiative but recognise where escalation is appropriate
  • Some experience of working within brand or visual identity guidelines is desirable
