The Art Beats festival is an exciting, creative collaboration between Lancaster University in the UK and Sunway University in Malaysia. The digital nature of the festival allows artists from both countries to come together and share their work with people from around the world. Bringing together art, film, music and theatre, Art Beats includes a range of events as well as an online gallery.  

 

We are looking to hire one or two enthusiastic and reliable interns to work with Art Beats Festival Director (Dr Maryam Ghorbankarimi) in the running up to the Art Beats Festival 2026. The intern/s will learn about the day-to-day developments of the festival from establishing new partnerships with local artists and curators to finalising and booking exhibition spaces. Once the Call for Artwork goes out, they would manage the incoming queries and help sort the submission. They will also look after the social media accounts and help update the website, coordinate with the designers to develop the 2026 website.

Working Hours / Pattern:  35 or 70 hours in total, depending on number of interns appointed. Hours are flexible, to be agreed with host. 
Location:Hybrid remotely (in the UK) and on Lancaster University campus

Job Description

Main duties:

  • Work collaboratively and liaise effectively with the others.
  •  Work to a set guideline and deadline to produce the outputs required.
  • Work closely with Maryam Ghorbankarimi (Festival Director) to set out goals and deadlines as well as help with festival organisational tasks, emails and queries.
  •  Keep the social media sites/ website up to date.
  •  Once the Call for Artwork goes live, manage the submissions.
  •  Help with research for venue hire and ordering goods. 

Person Specification

  • A current student studying on a degree scheme in the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
  • Demonstrate the ability to devise a good workflow collaborating with others.
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Available for some work on campus between 22 June and 31st July 2026.
