Lakeland Arts is an arts, heritage and culture charity. It runs exhibitions, events and engagement programmes across a portfolio of galleries and museums including Blackwell Arts and Crafts House, Windermere Jetty Museum and Abbot Hall.

The Curatorial Assistant Intern will support Lakeland Arts’ Curatorial and Participation & Learning teams in generating accessible and accurate content, labels, and narratives for collection artworks and objects.

These will be used for Lakeland Arts’ updated collection displays at Abbot Hall, and also our digital guide which is hosted by Bloomberg Connects.

Content could form the basis for exhibition labels, digital trails, narratives or highlighted stories from works in the collection. Content could take the form of written narratives, videos and audio interviews.

Key areas of focus could include creating content for objects being planned for display in Abbot Hall’s portraiture galleries, upcoming local landscape exhibition, working on our pop-up show for Kendal Pride, and helping deliver updates to our Ecology Gallery which responds to the Climate Emergency.

Working Hours / Pattern: 70 hours in total, to be agreed between the successful candidate and Lakeland Arts.

Job Description

  • Work with the Keeper of Collections and Participation and Learning Team to identify key dates and topics for content.
  • Research the Lakeland Arts collection and develop ideas for digital content.
  • Support the Creative Producer – Communities in generating audio and video content including scheduled interviews.
  • Produce and provide appropriate content to deadline.

Person Specification

  • Proven writing and research skills.
  • Good communication and ability to work in a team.
  • Self motivated and experience in working to deadlines.
  • An ability to create a variety of content according to audience and/or requirements of the organisation.
  • Flexible and positive approach to working.
  • An interest in art and heritage in gallery and museum settings.
