Accommodation Services Assistant  
Start date: As soon as possible 

The Accommodation Team are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to provide a customer orientated front line service to current and prospective students as part of a strong and supportive wider team. The team are responsible for delivering a professional and friendly accommodation service to incoming students and their families, students living on campus as well as assisting with the transition to off campus living. 

You will have excellent IT and communication skills as well as strong organisational skills and will be expected to demonstrate an ability to work flexibly with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.  

The post is available as soon as possible for a period of approximately 20 weeks. The successful candidate will work approximately 20 hours per weekon campus in a customer facing role.  

Rate of pay: £12.71 basic rate + £1.53 holiday pay

The post holder is required to liaise with a range of Professional Services staff including: 

  • Colleges
  • Students’ Union  
  •  ASK and Student Wellbeing Services
  • Facilities Maintenance, Cleaning and Security
  • Global Recruitment, Admissions and Outreach
  • Conferencing, Guest Rooms & Hospitality

External: 

  • Prospective students and parents 
  • City Centre accommodation providers: private property landlords and purpose-built student accommodation providers 
  • UPP 
  • INTO

Major Duties:

Provide efficient support for day-to-day operation of the central Accommodation Team, including: 

  • Dealing with face-to-face enquiries in the Lancaster University Homes office.  
  • Answering emails, giving advice and information to current and prospective students and internal departments. 
  • Maintaining Accreditation Scheme management system, including re- advertising of properties, uploading of related documents to system and website 
  • Assisting with coordination of Offer Holder events, Open Days including liaising with students, Colleges and Recruitment Teams. 
  • Assist Accommodation Team in promotion, marketing and advertising of the Lancaster University accreditation scheme and University managed accommodation 

Ensure that all aspects of service delivery contribute to a positive student experience 

To actively participate in any accommodation related special projects or events that aim to improve the effectiveness of the department and/or improve the student experience.

To execute any duties that may reasonably be expected of the post holder at the request of line management.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria 

  • To convey an appropriate rationale and interest in applying for this post  
  • Experience of delivering excellent front line customer service, dealing with a range of queries /concerns  
  • Experience of administrative processes in an office environment
  • Experience of prioritising workload to meet competing deadlines  
  • Strong IT skills with experience of electronic management systems and databases and all Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work in a team and have a flexible approach to work  
  • Effective numeracy and literacy skills with minimum of GCSE levels Grade C (or equivalent) in both English and Maths
