ROOM CHECKER 

 

The University’s Accommodation department are recruiting a team to help inspect rooms at the end of residents’ contracts, as well as ensuring that our accommodation is ready for the new arrivals in the next academic year. 

 

Posts are available from 25th June 2025 for 2-3 weeksthen again in September for 3 weeks. You will also be required to attend paid mandatory training session between 15th- 19th June (date to be advised) 

Please make sure that you are available to complete both parts of the post (June/July AND September) before applying. 

Some optional additional work may be available during July and August 

 

We have several vacancies for fast-learning, adaptable students with good observational skills.  You will also need the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.  Speed, flexibility, accuracy and attention to detail are vital.  

 

THE ROLE: 

 

Your role will be to identify repairs and faults within the accommodation, moving extensively around campus within the buildings and recording your findings on iPad's. The latter part of the programme will involve room deliveries, quality checks across campus in preparation for the coming academic year.  There may be a limited amount of light dusting involved for rooms which have been unoccupied over summer. 

 

HOURS & PAY: 

Rate of pay: £12.71 per hour, plus holiday pay - £1.53 - Total hourly rate - £14.24.

 

Please note 

Hours are variable, dependant on work levels and some weekend working may be necessary at key periods.

Job Description

 

Job Title:  Room Checker 

Responsible To:  Programme Manager 

Supervisory Responsibility:  None 

Relevant Internal Parties:  Accommodation Managers and Porters 

 

PURPOSE OF THE POST 

To work within a team to inspect student rooms/communal areas at the end of residents contract for repairs and faults. Assisting staff in preparing accommodation from student to vacation business and vice versa.  Other duties related to this. 

 

MAIN TASKS 

  • To inspect all student accommodation at the end of the residents contract  
  • To input data using an iPad accurately and consistently 

  • To photograph rooms using the iPad 

  • Removal /collection of shower curtains 

  • Removing out of date posters in study bedrooms/communal areas 

  • Assist in making deliveries to rooms including welcome packs, student information, bedding packs, posters etc 

  • Quality checks across campus 

  • Limited light dusting of surfaces for rooms which have been unoccupied over summer.  
  • Undertake other duties, as appropriate, when required 

Person Specification
