Role & Department Overview

Would you like to work with a small group of Year 12 mathematics students to consolidate and enrich their learning?

Levelling Up is a nationwide scheme, supported by the London Mathematical Society and the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications, that offers targeted support, during the Summer Term of Year 12, to small groups of A-level Mathematics students. Year 12 mathematics students will be helped to consolidate their subject knowledge and enrich their learning through participation in these sessions. Our Levelling Up tutors, who will be current undergraduate or postgraduate students at Lancaster, will drive these sessions, using the supplied Levelling Up teaching materials and lesson plans.

You'll work as part of a team of four tutors, liaising with Lancaster academic staff, to run a series of weekly mathematics classes, usually on Tuesday afternoons. The participating students will have been nominated by teachers at selected schools in Lancashire and Cumbria.

This is your opportunity to gain some paid work experience as a teacher, be part of an initiative to improve the learning outcomes of the participating students and help develop the School of Mathematical Sciences' links with local schools and colleges.
