Role & Department Overview

FHASS Global Leadership Team are seeking two PhD students to support a strategic market research project focused on strengthening FHASS international student recruitment and the development of international partnerships that support recruitment objectives.

The successful candidates will work together and  alongside the Faculty Global Leadership Team, to contribute to the design and delivery of a market research strategy and will produce a high-quality market report to inform future recruitment and partnership decisions.

Working Pattern: ~4 hours/week, designed to fit around academic commitments 
Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

The Project Support Workers will support the FHASS Global Leadership team by:

  • Engaging with internal stakeholders to inform the development of the market research strategy and partnership priorities.
  • Participating in structured ideation workshops to shape the research framework, target markets, partnership models and recruitment objectives.
  • Conducting online research to identify and assess international market opportunities for FHASS programmes.
  • Mapping and analysing potential international partner institutions and organisations that could support student recruitment through collaborative or pathway-based arrangements.
  • Analysing international market trends, competitor activity, partnership practices and student demand in selected regions.
  • Producing a comprehensive market research report that identifies and evaluates priority recruitment markets and partnership opportunities for FHASS programmes abroad.
  • Contributing to presentations of findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and project leads.
  • Providing general project support to the FHASS Global Leadership team. 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Current postgraduate research student at Lancaster University 
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, with the ability to translate complex market and institutional data into clear strategic insights.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including experience producing structured research and policy-style reports.
  • Strong problem-solving and organisation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of foreign language(s)
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
  • Experience in market research, policy research, consultancy or institutional research projects.
  • Knowledge of international higher education systems, student recruitment practices and partnership models
  • Experience contributing to workshops, stakeholder consultations or partnership-related projects.
