Eligibility 

This micro internship is for 30 hours in total (including 4 hours for training) and is aimed at students who have limited professional prior work experience and are looking for an opportunity that supports them to develop their employability skills. 

To apply for this micro internship, students must be part of GROW Your Future. 

GROW Your Future is an opt-in scheme for UK undergraduates and postgraduate taught students who also meet specific Widening Participation criteria, e.g. students who are: 

  • first in their family to go to university; 

  • in receipt of a Lancaster Bursary; 

  • received free school meals  

  • over 21 when they start their first undergraduate degree; 

  • Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic; 

  • disabled (including learning disabilities, physical or mental health conditions); 

  • care leavers or have caring responsibilities, or estranged from family 

  • a refugee or asylum seeker, from a gypsy or Traveller community, or from a military family

As stated above, the GROW Your Future Micro Internship Scheme aims to support students with limited professional work experience, therefore priority will be given to students who meet this criteria. This includes students who may have already completed a GYF micro internship. 

Role Overview 

The role is to support the Research Systems Officer, and the Research Support and Systems Manager in the running of research systems, ensuring the data within the systems is accurate. These roles sit within the division of Research and Enterprise Services (RES), which is made up of around 170 members of staff, working in various teams and roles throughout the university.

The Research side of the division supports academics applying for and being awarded research grants, whilst also guiding and supporting them through the full research lifecycle. The Research Systems Team are integral in overseeing systems such as Pure which is a public facing Research portal, REAMS our Ethics application System and Agresso.

Start Date: 2 March 2026
End Date: 13 April 2026
Working Pattern: 4-6 hours per week but can be flexible
Location: Work from home, the campus library, or use the hot desk space in Health Innovation One.

Job Description

  • Reviewing and updating relevant webpages, whilst also taking into consideration accessibility requirements
  • Updating relevant information on REF within Pure (our publish facing Research portal used within RES)
  • Mapping out the processes used within our research systems to increase efficiency

Person Specification

  • A member of GROW Your Future 
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use Excel, or willingness to learn new skills in this area
  • Previous CMS experience is desirable but not essential
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team when required
