Role & Department Overview

The Students' Union Events team is looking for eager and skilled Events Crew Technical Supervisor to join our exciting Events Crew. In this role, you will supervise and lead a team of Events Crew Technicians and provide technical support for Students' Union events. This includes scheduling staff, leading the set-up, operation and takedown of tech for SU events, the operation of Sugarhouse sound and lighting during their weekly events. You will also take the lead on our Crew & Technical Equipment hire service, liaising with student groups and external parties to deliver exceptional customer service.

Your technical know-how and passion for great events will help create memories and experiences for fellow students. We're looking for an individual that has experience in sound, lighting or other tech in an events, live music or theatre context.

Please note, the role will begin this term however you will be expected to be available to work for the 2026/27 academic year too.

Job Description

  • Leading and supervising the Events Crew Team on shifts, leading by example to ensure the safe and efficient set-up, delivery and break-down of events,
  • Coordinating Events Crew and equipment hire requests from student groups and external parties by providing excellent customer service and communication, preparing cost estimates and scheduling and briefing Crew Members,
  • Training, motivating and supporting Events Crew Members in key event areas such as handling and operating equipment,
  • Acting as a key point of contact during events, troubleshooting issues as they arise and escalating to Events Management where necessary,
  • Ensuring all health and safety regulations and risk assessments are always adhered to,
  • Attending weekly Supervisors meetings with Events Management to raise issues and contribute to the planning of hires and large-scale LUSU events,
  • Working as part of the wider Events Crew Team and performing other duties as required by Events Management.

Person Specification

Essential 
  • Technical knowledge of event equipment, including sound and lighting
  • Current Lancaster University student continuing during the 2026/27 academic year
  • Experience in supervising or leading a team of staff or volunteers, with the ability to motivate a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including email communications
  • Excellent customer service skills and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Highly organised and the ability to manage tasks with competing deadlines
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices related to events, such as safe manual handling
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work, including availability for evening, night and weekend shifts with a willingness to work popular events
  • Passion for supporting high-quality events and experiences
