Role & Department Overview

The University's central Health and Safety Team has oversight of the health and safety of the University. The team -
  • ensures policy, guidance, information and training is available to help departments and divisions in the University to manage their own health and safety
  • undertakes audits departments and divisions against university policy, legislation and approved national standards and gives advice to encourage improvements
  • drafts health and safety reports for University wide meetings
  • attends/arranges meetings with management, trade unions, departmental safety officers, enforcement bodies and others where necessary
  • oversees the University wide health surveillance programme
  • gives advice requested
Preferred Start Date: 9th of February 2026
Expected End Date: 1st of May 2026
Interview Date: 6th of February 2026
Working Pattern: 4 hours per week

Job Description

The overall purpose of this appointment is to support the University Health and Safety team with administration during a period of staff secondment  

Working with the University Health & Safety Officer and our part-time administrator, the duties of the role are to: 

  1. Provide support relating to the coordination of Occupational Health Surveillance appointments with the third-party supplier and individual members of staff.  

  1. Monitor and maintain the records of qualified first aiders ensuring that qualifications remain valid and ensure that lists of qualified staff are published termly. 

  1. Be responsible for issuing eye test vouchers to staff when requested 

  1. Provide support on the monitoring of actions from fire risk assessments. 

  1. Any other duties as may reasonably be required, consistent with the grade of the post and time available.

The role holder should:

  •  Be able to work with sensitive data and maintain confidentiality 
  •  Have good working knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Teams
  •  Have good attention to detail and organisational skills
  •  Good communication skills with the ability to relate to, and communicate effectively with members of staff
