Eligibility 

This micro internship is for 30 hours in total (including 4 hours for training) and is aimed at students who have limited professional prior work experience and are looking for an opportunity that supports them to develop their employability skills.

GROW Your Future is an opt-in scheme for UK undergraduates and postgraduate taught students who also meet specific Widening Participation criteria, e.g. students who are: 

  •  first in their family to go to university;
  •  in receipt of a Lancaster Bursary;

  •  over 21 when they start their first undergraduate degree;
  •  Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic;
  •  disabled (including learning disabilities, physical or mental health conditions);

Role Overview

The New Phytologist Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation which publishes two international journals of plant science and organises symposia for the plant science community, is seeking an intern to assist with uploading and editing of video recordings and updating information on its website. 

The New Phytologist Foundation is based at Lancaster University and is part of the Lancaster Environment Centre. The Foundation’s offices are in Furness College.

 Preferred Start Date: 26th January 2026

 Expected End Date: 31st March 2026

 Location: On the Lancaster University Campus and Remote Working

 Working Pattern: 4 - 8 Hours per week (Flexible)

Job Description

  • Locating and trimming recordings from Zoom, and updating recording metadata on the Cassyni platform.
  • Creating webpages to display recordings on The New Phytologist Foundation’s website.
  • Updating existing webpages with new content.
  • Assisting the Events & Promotions Manager with the administration of symposia.

Person Specification

Required:

  • Interest in website management
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good proof-reading skills
  • Willingness to learn and use initiative

Desirable

  • Interest in plant science, environmental science, or similar subjects
  • Interest in scientific publishing and scholarly communication
  • Interest in delivering scientific conferences
  • Experience with online video editing
