Student Telephone Fundraiser

As the Fundraising team at Lancaster University, we are committed to fostering an inclusive community where talent, adaptability, and resilience are celebrated. Our Annual Fund programme provides an important way to gather support from our alumni, helping us turn these values into real benefits for our students. 

The Lancaster University Opportunity Fund is designed to support the future of our students by helping them access a top-quality education. Donations to The Lancaster University Opportunity Fund support the University to provide a place where people are treated with dignity and respect and where no one is disadvantaged because of who they are. The fund supports a range of activities that help students who are typically underrepresented at university and may not know about the support and opportunities available to them.  

Main Responsibilities

• Support Fundraising: Communicate our fundraising goals and ask alumni for donations to support students and university initiatives.
• Show Gratitude: Thank current donors for their generosity and remind alumni of the benefits of staying connected to Lancaster University.
• Engage with Alumni: Build closer relationships by talking to alumni about their lives and perhaps even receive advice on your future career.
• Promote University Events: Inform alumni about upcoming events and gather feedback on past events.

Campaign Dates:

• Campaign Duration: 9^th February – 8^th March 2025
• Training Dates: 7-8^th February (2 days)
• Calling Times:
• Weekdays: 6:15pm - 9:30pm
• Saturdays: 9:45am - 5:00pm
• Sundays: 1:45pm - 8:00pm

Availability Requirements:

• Applicants must be available for both training days and at least two weekday shifts and one weekend shift per week.

Here’s what to include:

2. Tell us something interesting about yourself!

4. Keep it warm, friendly, and professional — imagine you’re speaking to an alumnus you want to engage with.
5. Finish with a polite and clear sign-off.

• Speak clearly and at a steady pace.
• Show your enthusiasm — we want to hear your personality!

We won’t be shortlisting any applicants who haven’t sent a voice note to support their application.

Once you submit your CV, cover letter and voicemail message, shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an online selection session. Instructions will be sent out via email.

We are looking for applicants who meet the following criteria:

• Current Lancaster University student (UG or PG) for the 2024/2025 academic year.
• Passionate about Lancaster University and the aims of our fundraising activity.
• Excellent communication skills: Able to speak clearly and enthusiastically to a wide range of people.
• Confident telephone manner: Able to build rapport and engage alumni in interesting conversations.
• Reliable and well-organised: Capable of balancing work and study commitments.
• Team player with a positive attitude: Ready to adapt to different situations.
• Fluent in English.
• Willingness to ask for financial support from alumni.

No Experience Necessary: Full training will be provided, prior fundraising or sales experience is not required.
