Role Overview

The Medical Connections programme supports first year students on the MBChB Medicine and Surgery Degree Programme who fulfil widening participation criteria. The programme aims to increase confidence, resilience and effectiveness in team, group and networking situations, and prepare students for their future as a medic.

Lancaster Medical School is looking to appoint three current medical students (Years 2-5) as Medical Connections Student Ambassadors to support the delivery of the Medical Connections programme.

The role involves supporting the delivery of four workshops during February and March 2026. Ambassadors will facilitate breakout sessions within the workshops to develop students self-knowledge, confidence and teamwork skills. The ambassadors will provide peer support and facilitate discussion around progression through the medical degree offering insight around placements, electives, intercalation and other aspects of the medical degree.

If successful, you will join a pool of Ambassadors who will be invited to support the workshops subject to your availability once your timetables are confirmed. We would hope to get you involved with most if not all of the workshops, where your timetable permits.

Wed 11th Feb 2026 - 16:00-18:00

Tues 17th Feb 2026 – 17:00-19:00

Tues 24th Feb 2026 – 15:00-19:00

Tues 10th Mar 2026 – 17:00-18:00

Start Date: 1 December 2025
End Date: 30 April 2026
Working Pattern: 2 hours/week
Location: On the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

To support delivery of the Medical Connections programme in February and March 2026 including:

  • provide a friendly and approachable welcome to the workshops.
  • facilitate breakout sessions within the workshops to create a supportive and inclusive environment for discussion and questions.
  • provide peer support and facilitate discussion around progression through the medical degree offering insight around placements, electives, intercalation and other aspects of the medical degree.
  • share experiences of your degree and time within the Medical School and confidently talk about life at Lancaster University and in Medicine and Surgery.
  • To act as an ambassador for the Medical Connections programme promoting its ethos, opportunities and enhancing its reputation.

Person Specification

  • You must be a current student registered on A100 Medicine and Surgery or Medicine and Surgery with a Gateway Year and in Years 2-5 of study. Applications are particularly encouraged from those in Year 2 & Year 3.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and/or personal experience of the Medical Connections programme
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to talk to other students in small groups.
  • Enthusiastic attitude about your studies and Lancaster University.
  • A friendly approach to interacting with other students
  • Good knowledge of your degree scheme and the Medical School, Lancaster University, including the campus, facilities and student community.
  • Reliable and punctual with a flexible approach to work.
