Role & Department Overview

The Widening Participation (WP) team are looking for a current LU student to provide short-term administrative support for the Lancaster Access Programme. 

The Lancaster Access Programme is a widening access scheme for Year 12 and 13 students from widening participation backgrounds. The programme gives prospective students access to a range of activities, designed to introduce them to university, experience campus life and prepare them for future study.

Please note: You must be available on either a Tuesday or a Wednesday each week, the role is based on campus from w/c 10/11/2025 – w/c 22/12/2025 (number of hours to be agreed on appointment).

Job Description

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

1. To work with the WP Project Lead to provide effective administration support i.e. processing Lancaster Access Programme applications and sending out decision confirmations. 
2. To monitor the Lancaster Access Programme mailbox and respond to enquiries. 
3. To support pre-event preparation (Lancaster Access Programme Launch Event). 
4. To mark LAP student submissions and award associated credits. 
5. To write engaging copy for the monthly LAP newsletter.

6. To complete designated training. 
7. To undertake duties in accordance with university policy relating to GDPR, safeguarding, health/safety and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience of administration tasks and close attention to detail. Essential
  • Previous experience of providing high-quality customer service and handling external enquires. Essential 
  • Highly organised and proven ability to prioritise tasks, working both independently and collaboratively to achieve outcomes by an agreed deadline.  Essential
  • Excellent communication skills (both interpersonal and written). Essential
  • Reliable, committed and punctual. Essential
  • Awareness of safeguarding when working with young people and the parameters of confidentiality.  Desirable
