This micro internshipis for 30 hours in total (including 4 hours for training) and is aimed at students who have limited professional prior work experience and are looking for an opportunity that supports them to develop their employability skills. 

Eligibility 

To apply for this micro internship, students must be part of GROW Your Future. 

GROW Your Future is an opt-in scheme for UK undergraduates and postgraduate taught students who also meet specific Widening Participation criteria, e.g. students who are:

  • first in their family to go to university;
  • in receipt of a Lancaster Bursary;
  • received free school meals 
  • over 21 when they start their first undergraduate degree;
  • Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic;
  • disabled (including learning disabilities, physical or mental health conditions);
  • care leavers or have caring responsibilities, or estranged from family
  • a refugee or asylum seeker, from a gypsy or Traveller community, or from a military family

As stated above, the GROW Your Future Micro Internship Scheme aims to support students with limited professional work experience, therefore priority will be given to students who meet this criteria. This includes students who may have already completed a GYF micro internship.  

We are looking for a creative and motivated student to join Team Criminology as a Content & Communications Intern, with a focus on Instagram and LinkedIn. Criminology has recently undergone a major change through the restructuring of FHASS, creating exciting opportunities to refresh its identity. We’re developing a new communications strategy to strengthen engagement, showcase research, and connect with wider audiences. The intern will design engaging Instagram posts that highlight student life, teaching, research, and events - and develop a new LinkedIn presence, aiming to engage with current staff and students, alumni, and external partners and future collaborators. They’ll help build our online presence, working with academics and students to plan and create content that connects with diverse audiences. This position is ideal for someone with an interest in social media, storytelling, and project management. No advanced technical skills are required - just creativity, reliability, and enthusiasm for showcasing our discipline’s work in an engaging, accessible way.

Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour plus £1.47 holiday pay

Start Date: 17th November 2025

End Date: 16th February 2026

Job Description

  • Work with the academic Criminology Content Leads to help shape and implement a refreshed social media and communications strategy
  • Develop engaging, visually appealing posts for Instagram and LinkedIn that reflect the criminology identity and values.
  • Collaborate with staff and students to gather content ideas and feature discipline activities.
  • Ensure all content aligns with university branding and communication guidelines.
  • Expand our LinkedIn network and collaborate with alumni to feature their stories or projects.

Person Specification


  • Interest in Criminology and higher education marketing.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for visual storytelling.
  • Basic knowledge of Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Good written communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take clear photos or short videos using a phone or camera.
  • Ability to work independently.
