Lancaster Medical School (LMS) is a thriving department with the Faculty of Health and Medicine and has two undergraduate degrees: MBChB Medicine and Surgery and the BSc in Sports and Exercise Science. The careers team is strongly aligned with the department and provides exceptional support, which we wish to further enhance, particularly to provide further opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in research activities during their degree to inform their future career decision making and aspirations.

There are three research groups within LMS, that aligns with our diverse strengths: Centre for Health Informatics, Computing and Statistics (CHICAS), Experimental Medicine and the Interdisciplinary Network for Culture, Health, Ethics and Society (INCHES). Academic staff, research staff and postgraduate research students are each a member of a group. Research activities to support research culture within the department include monthly research talks, a monthly research and engagement newsletter, writing retreats and an annual research away day.

This role is intended to enhance the visibility of research across the whole department, from UG through to all staff. Within the medical school we have a number of plans to enhance research visibility across our buildings, and online, and should like an intern to facilitate the implementation and development of these plans. This is also an opportunity for an intern to contribute creatively to how we share and disseminate our research internally and externally. This role is important because it will enhance research culture throughout the medical school, which aligns strongly with the LUFuture plans, while also providing an opportunity for a student to develop their skills in organisation and project management while learning more about how research works in higher education.

The intern will report directly to the director of research (DoR) for Lancaster Medical School, with input from deputy director of research for LMS, the DoRs for the Division of Health Research, Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences and research staff.
