About the Role

 You will be joining the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (FHASS) events team, who lead activities such as the Open Day events, Offer Holder Events and other recruitment events. You will work closely with disciplines and other central University teams on an ad-hoc basis.
 

Joining our Faculty Student Ambassador Leader team, you’ll build on the responsibilities of a traditional Student Ambassador and take on a pivotal role of leading ambassador teams at key recruitment eventsYou will represent your discipline and the University, engage with prospective students, and be a vital part of building our ambassador community.

 In addition to the usual Student Ambassador activities, your responsibilities will also include supervising ambassadors during shifts, providing administrative support for the FHASS Events Team and occasionally disciplines, playing a key role in leading teams of ambassadors at student recruitment events on campus.

 This role is open to students studying a course within the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at the Bailrigg campus. You don’t need to have been a Student Ambassador prior to this but it is desirable.
 We are not currently seeking FHASS Student Ambassador Leaders in the following disciplines: Architecture, History.

 Successful candidates must be available to attend in-person training on Tuesday 25 November at 5.00pm - 7.00pm.

 You must also be available to work 3 out of the 4 Offer Holder Events and 3 out of the 4 Undergraduate Open Day Events on the following dates in 2026*: 

  •  Saturday 31 January - Offer Holder Event
  •  Saturday 28 February - Offer Holder Event
  •  Saturday 14 March - Offer Holder Event
  •  Saturday 11 April - Offer Holder Event
  •  Saturday 27 June - UG Open Day
  •  Saturday 11 July - UG Open Day
  • Saturday 3 October - UG Open Day
  • Saturday 17 October - UG Open Day

 *We will try our best to allocate you to your preferred dates, however, this may not be possible due to availability.  

 For any dates not in term time, we may be able to cover travel and provide accommodation when needed**

Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

Your main responsibilities will be to:
 
  •  Represent your discipline and Lancaster University to the highest possible standard, engage with prospective students, and be a vital part of our campus community
  • Supervise and support Student Ambassadors during shifts, lead by example and encourage the Ambassador team to do the same. 
  • Provide excellent customer service when dealing with student and visitor queries, whether face to face, by telephone, email or web (though it will predominantly be face to face) 
  • Provide administrative support for the FHASS Events Team or faculty disciplines
  • Coach and assess ambassadors on their ability to deliver and represent your discipline (subject talks, tasters, tours etc) and provide constructive feedback if needed
  • Represent your course and the wider University as a ‘Unibuddy’
  • Host and deliver student life webinars, participate in online events and take part in student Q&A sessions
  • Play a key role in supporting Student Ambassadors
  • Assist with any other duties as may reasonably be required by the FHASS Events Team

Person Specification

Education
 
  • You must be registered as a current Lancaster University degree student (Essential)
Essential Skills
 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Desire and ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Excellent use of initiative, able to solve problems and think creatively
  • Engaging personality and ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and ages
  • Excellent knowledge of Lancaster University and your discipline including campus, systems, facilities and student life
  • Comfortable with delivering presentations and public speaking, including delivering presentations via online platforms
  •  Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular use of Word, Excel, email 
Desirable Skills & Abilities
 
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing environment and providing excellent customer service
  • Experience supervising and/or mentoring others and providing advice and guidance
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to delegate, use initiative and motivate others
  • Understanding of the importance of Student Ambassadors and the role they play in recruitment events
  • Knowledge and ability to use online platforms, such as Unibuddy and The Student Room
