Role & Department Overview

ISS support the Campus teaching spaces which require daily checks to ensure the key components of the spaces are in good working order to ensure lectures and seminars can take place without disruption. This role carries out the checks on a number of rooms on a daily basis working with the wider ISS Engineer teams to escalate and resolve any issues found.
 
Hours are flexible up to 10 hours per week, usually at the start and end of the day in term time only. 
Some experience of supporting or interest in Audio Visual equipment would be beneficial for the role.

Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour plus £1.47 holiday pay

End Date: 26th June 2026

Working Pattern: 10 hours per week

Job Description

The main duties of the role are
  • Checking teaching space equipment functions appropriately and reporting any issues
  • Checking IT lab space equipment functions appropriately and reporting any issues
  • To monitor and maintain an agreed set of teaching and lab spaces, including, but not limited to:
    • Replacing radio microphone batteries
    • Ensuring that equipment has been powered down if not in use
    • Reporting any equipment found faulty
    • Assisting in the maintenance of ISS signage and posters
  • Under supervision and direction of IT Engineers, assisting with taking delivery, the physical setting up and routine care of new PCs, printers and IT equipment
  • To meet regularly with the nominated IT Engineer to discuss any problems and receive guidance

Person Specification

Be a current student at Lancaster University for a minimum of the following 12 months
Have a good working knowledge of Lancaster University's Bailrigg campus
Demonstrate reliability and good timekeeping with a flexible approach to working hours
Have experience of working independently, including the ability to work on their own initiative
Have excellent communication and customer service skills,demonstrating the ability to convey messages accurately
Have the ability to communicate with academic and administrative staff, and with students from a wide range of backgrounds
Show problem solving skills including diagnosis, collecting information, referring to others where necessary and logging incidents
Have experience of prioritising their workload to deal with a range of varied and competing tasks
Desirable - experience of supporting or interest in Audio Visual equipment.
