Role & Department Overview

Facilities undertake all property services on behalf of the University, including cleaning, landscaping, security, accommodation, hospitality, sport, capital development and general maintenance of the Estate.

Each year a utilisation survey of central teaching space is carried out, to help understand how rooms are used and inform strategic decisions on teaching space provision.

Surveyors are required to carry out occupancy headcounts in seminar rooms and lecture theatres.

The survey will take place over a one-week period (Week 5), during core teaching hours 9-6pm.

 Start Date: 3rd November 2025

End Date: 7th November 2025

Interview Date: Monday 20th October 2025

Location: On the Lancaster University campus

Hours per week:  Several 4 or 5 hour shifts

Job Description

 Surveyors will: 

  • Be provided with a list of teaching spaces and will visit each space once every hour.
  • Carry out a headcount of people in the room and record the number on the survey sheet.
  • Be available to work several 4 hour (9-1pm) or 5 hour (1pm-6pm) shifts during Week 5 (Week commencing 3rd November 2025)

Person Specification

The successful candidates will be: 

  • Have good communication skills.
  • Reliable
  • Have good spoken English.
  • Be confident dealing with people.
  • Have good knowledge of campus.
  • No experience necessary
  • The role requires the post holder to be able to quickly move between rooms in different areas of the campus in several buildings and levels so a moderate level of physical fitness and mobility is required.
