 We are looking to employ an assistant to support the administration of LUMS Learning Development, including the LUMS Leading Lights mentoring scheme and Learning Development peer writing schemes. 
 
 Preferred start date: 1st of September 2025
 
Expected end date: 1st of September 2026
 
Interview date: 25th of August 2025
 
Weekly hours: 2-15 hours per week
 
Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

For LUMS Leading Lights:

  • Helping to organise the scheme’s events, including booking rooms and catering and planning activities.
  •  Acting as the main point of contact (via email) for mentors and mentees.
  • Enrolling students to and maintaining dedicated Moodle and Teams pages.
  • Logging and monitoring mentor hours and authorising timesheets.
  • Monitoring mentor and mentee engagement (including logging hours) and following up with individuals where necessary.
  • Supporting student workshops and drop ins.
  • Supporting the recruitment and interview process for new mentors.
  • Monitoring the LLL mailbox and responding to queries.
  • Maintaining the LLL and LUMS LD Instagram pages.
  • Taking the lead on marketing the LLL scheme.

For the peer writing schemes:

  • Monitoring weekly bookings and sending reminder emails.
  • Supporting the development of resources, including marketing materials.
  • Collecting and organising student feedback.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Demonstrate good time management and organisational skills. 
  • Show the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. 
  • Have good problem-solving skills and take a pro-active approach. 
  • Have a good knowledge of and be confident using Microsoft Office, Canva and Instagram. 
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to support mentors and staff across the team. 
  • Have a sound understanding of the role of Learning Development at Lancaster University, and within LUMS in particular.
