Are you from the Channel Islands and interested in becoming a Student Ambassador? We are currently seeking a current student who is from or has lived/studied in the Channel Islands to represent Lancaster University at events taking place in the Channel Islands. 

About the Role

As a Student Ambassador, you will have the exciting opportunity to represent our institution at events in the Channel Islands, engage with prospective students, and be a vital part of our Ambassador community. Your responsibilities will include sharing your personal experiences and providing valuable insights to prospective students. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in other student recruitment events to represent Lancaster University such as Campus Tours, Open Days and School Visits.

You will be joining the External Relations (ER) Events team, who lead activities such as the Open Days, Offer Holder Events, International Student Arrivals, Campus Tours and online outreach activities. There are also opportunities to work with other departments across the University on an ad-hoc basis.

This role is open to students who are from the Channel Islands. Full training in all aspects of the role will be provided.

Successful candidates must be available to attend a Student Ambassador training day on Saturday 15th November (times TBC),  and must also be available to attend events in the Channel Islands w/c 17th November 2025 and w/c 9th March 2026 (exact dates and hours TBC)

Your travel, accommodation and food expenses will all be covered whilst you are attending all events.

 

Start Date: 6th October 2025

End Date: 27th September 2026 

Interview: Online (via Teams) on Thursday 18th September 2025

Location: You will need to travel to the Channel Islands for the majority of the work this role entails, but will also have the opportunity to join other opportunities on campus as well as across the UK

Job Description

We're looking for dedicated Lancaster University students who will embody our ethos, are comfortable sharing their experiences and are passionate about showcasing the best of what Lancaster University has to offer. With strong communication skills and a knack for engaging with prospective students and their families, you'll play a crucial role in creating memorable experiences and fostering a welcoming atmosphere. If you're enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to representing our university with pride, we want you on our team!

Even if you don’t meet the criteria for all the points below, we would still welcome an application from you. If you have had no prior experience, skills developed in school and in other jobs are quite often transferable, so you don’t need to have had direct experience with everything listed below. As well as this, the Student Ambassador Programme is committed to supporting you in your development, therefore, in any areas you are not confident in, we can provide lots of training and support for this!

Main Responsibilities:
 
  • Represent Lancaster University to the highest possible standard, engage with prospective students, and be a vital part of our campus community
  • Consistently provide great quality campus tours to prospective students and their guests
  • Share positive experiences and enthusiasm for Higher Education and Lancaster University, specifically at events and activities throughout the year
  • Act as an Ambassador for the University, promoting its ethos, opportunities and services and enhancing its reputation at events
  • Answer any questions that visitors may have professionally and positively, and share personal experiences of life in Lancaster
  • Have good knowledge of Lancaster University and be able to share this knowledge with visitors
  • Support and assist at events where required, e.g. Open Days; Offer Holder Events, with set up and set down of equipment for each event
  • Work as part of a team and lead by example, delivering consistently good service
  • Support the Outreach team at events such as HE Fairs, UCAS Fairs and School Talks (Optional)
  • Support any online events including webinars and live stream tours (Optional)
  • Attend compulsory training and briefing sessions where required
  • Assist with any other duties as may reasonably be required by the recruitment and admissions team

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

Education & Background

  • You must be from or have lived/studied in the Channel Islands (Essential)

  • You must be registered as a current Lancaster University degree student (Essential)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Desire and ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Excellent use of initiative, able to solve problems and think creatively
  • Engaging personality and ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and ages
  • Excellent knowledge of Lancaster University including, campus, systems, facilities and student life
 
Desirable Skills & Abilities
 
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing environment and providing excellent customer service
  • Comfortable with delivering presentations and public speaking, including delivering presentations via online platforms

  • Knowledge and ability to use online platforms
