Role & Department Overview

The Disability and Inclusion Africa Network aims to improve understandings of disability in sub-Saharan Africa. 

The Network includes disabled persons, disabled person’s organizations, NGOs, policy makers, education and healthcare professionals, and academics. 

We host regular online workshops, international events, and a biannual conference. We also collaborate on funded research projects and fund small initiatives to improve the lives of disabled persons in sub-Saharan Africa. 

The conference will bring together researchers in the fields of genetics, ophthalmology, dermatology and oncology, those in the arts, humanities and social sciences, albinism advocates, associations and human rights defenders, to share expertise and new research findings. The event marks 10 years of the mandate of the UN Independent Expert on the Rights of Persons with Albinism. The current UN Expert will be one of our keynote speakers.

Weekly hours: 20 Hours in total, 15, 16, 17 September 2025
 
Location: On the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:
 
  •  To support the set up for the conference on 15th September, including preparation of conference packs, name badges and welcoming delegates arriving early. 
  •  Assisting on the two days of the conference with welcoming and directing delegates, registration, and supporting the smooth running of the conference e.g. basic technical support to upload slides before panels, ensuring speakers are in the correct room, etc.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills  
  • Organization and time management  
  • Technical skills sufficient to support delegates to project slides onto screens in the conference room 
  • Problem solving and ability to adapt to last-minute changes 
  • Teamwork – ability to collaborate with event organizer and other assistants
