Made for Health is a multidisciplinary group of architects, academics and clinicians. We are interested in how buildings can work better for the patients, relatives and staff who use them. Since 2017 we have been running courses to empower clinicians in building projects and have taught over 400 people on our “Building Blocks for Clinicians” courses. We have a background of carrying out research with Emma’s Stockton’s dissertation into optimising the role of clinicians in healthcare building projects, Liz Whelan’s PHD research into project management of healthcare projects and Jennifer Whinnett’s research into healthcare environments.
We are interested in developing a research programme around recurring themes which have emerged from our teaching. Our course attendees are keen for more knowledge sharing of what works and doesn’t work and so we are interested in how Made for Health can facilitate this through making tools such as post occupancy evaluation more accessible. Our speakers often share their innovative and inspirational approaches to working on healthcare projects and so we are also interested in looking into these different ways of approaching projects in more depth.
We are delighted to be part of the University of Lancaster Social Entrepreneur in Residence scheme and look forward to working together.
We are looking for an intern who shares our passion for using research to make healthcare buildings better for everyone who uses them. We are developing a new research programme based around themes that have emerged from our teaching and are looking for an intern who can support us with this. A key part of the role will be evaluating the current state of research into improving building user satisfaction, particularly in healthcare buildings.
