Role & Department Overview

This micro internshipis for 30 hours in total (including 4 hours for training) and is aimed at students who have limited professional prior work experience and are looking for an opportunity that supports them to develop their employability skills. 

Eligibility 

To apply for this micro internship, students must be part of GROW Your Future. 

GROW Your Future is an opt-in scheme for UK undergraduates and postgraduate taught students who also meet specific Widening Participation criteria, e.g. students who are: 

  • first in their family to go to university
  • in receipt of a Lancaster Bursary
  • received free school meals or from a low participation neighbourhood 
  • over 21 when they start their first undergraduate degree
  • Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic
  • disabled (including learning disabilities, physical or mental health conditions)
  • care leavers or have caring responsibilities, or estranged from family 
  • a refugee or asylum seeker, from a gypsy or Traveller community, or from a military family

As stated above, the GROW Your Future micro internship scheme aims to support students with limited professional work experience, therefore priority will be given to students who meet this criteria. This includes students who may have already completed a GYF micro internship. 

The Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Team, within People and Organisational Effectiveness, are looking for an enthusiastic Micro Internship Student to support in planning and running events for South Asian Heritage Month and planning events for East and South East Asian Heritage Month and Black History Month. The role will involve researching these months, collating event plans from departments and societies, proposing and designing events and developing an evaluation strategy with support from the EDI Project Manager for the Race Equality Charter. The Micro Internship Student will also be involved in delivering the event for South Asian Heritage Month.

Start Date: 16th June 2025

End Date: 31st July 2025

Interview Date: TBC

Working hours: 3-4 hours per week but flexible 

Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

 
  • Researching South Asian Heritage Month, East and South East Asian Heritage Month, and Black History Month and producing an overview with event ideas

  • Collecting information about events being run by departments and societies

  • Support with the planning of three events

  • Developing an evaluation strategy to review the events and their success

  • Support with the delivery of the South Asian Heritage Month Event
