Role & Department Overview

Lancaster University's Retail team have a number of exciting opportunities to work in the University's bars and food outlets across campus this academic year. They are offering outstanding development opportunities with a range of daytime, evening and weekend hours available to fit around your studies.

The Retail Services department oversees the college bars and a variety of University run cafes. These roles will be reporting to one of our unit managers and will work within our existing team of full time members of staff and students

You must have great verbal communication skills, be a capable multi-tasker, thrive under pressure, be a great team player and be committed to delivering the highest standards of customer service.

Interview Date: 16th June 2025

Start Date: End of September 2025

Duration: For the academic year 25/26

Location: Various locations around campus

Hours per week: 12+

There will be 2 different positions available, however please note that you will be required to work in all areas. You will not just be assigned to one area in particular.
 

1. Bar staff - you will be placed in one of our busy bars where you will undertake duties to keep the day to day operation running smoothly. These areas will be  and will include daytime hours, late nights and weekends. Whilst you will have one main location you may move between areas on occasion.

2. Cafe Staff - you will be placed in one of our busy cafes and food outlets offering the best customer service to our staff, students and visitors. These areas are the Marketplace, The Deli and HIVE and the Preschool. These areas will include, daytime and weekend work and potentially some early evening work. 

Job Description

  • To maintain excellent customer relations and to constantly strive to improve customer service in line with departmental policy
  • To operate tills in line with departmental regulations
  • Preparation and/or service of food and beverages in line with departmental procedures
  • To serve, deliver and prepare at functions as required
  • To correctly use equipment in line with departmental procedures
  • To work within EHO, COSHH and Health and Safety Guidelines
  • To complete daily cleaning schedules and carry out other cleaning duties as required
  • To wear uniforms at all times in-line with departmental policy
  • To maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, and work in a clean and tidy manner
  • To attend relevant training courses as directed by the senior manager
  • All work to be carried out with a customer focused attitude, providing excellent customer service with a proactive work ethic
  • At all times to carry out ones responsibilities with due regard to the university’s codes of practice on Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety and adhere to the Data Protection Act
