Do you have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and an interest in working with students, providing signposting and information, both in person and online?

Are you interested in enhancing the employability prospects of students by helping them to access appointment bookings, careers information, our extensive resources, and job opportunities? If so, our Careers Ambassador role is a fantastic way for you to contribute to students’ future success, whilst developing your own skills and experience.

We are recruiting four current Lancaster University students, from all levels of study and degree subjects, to raise awareness and enhance student engagement with the Careers and Employability service.    As our brand ambassador, you will promote the service through faculties, societies, and events. 

This is a part-time, flexible, on-campus role, designed to fit around your study commitments. Some weekend work will be required.

The role will commence in October 2025 but we are aiming to hold the training in advance of this.  There is no guarantee of hours, but we anticipate that you will work around 5 hours per week, primarily during term-time, although some out of term work may be available.  

Comprehensive initial training, covering advising skills and core employability topics will be provided along with ongoing development opportunities and training. This role is open to current Lancaster students only.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:
 
  • Raising awareness on how to make effective use of the Careers and Employability Service among Lancaster students by contributing to promotional activities such as college roadshows, open days, careers fairs and library foyer events.
  • Providing initial signposting to careers information and our services. This will include demonstrating resources to students at events, responding to quick queries in-person or electronically, researching information, or referring queries to the Careers Service staff as necessary.
  • Co-delivering presentations at open days and offer hold events.
  • Working with service staff to contribute to the development of digital information resources such as blog posts or short information videos on careers related topics.
  • Promoting the Careers and Employability Service to students as a brand ambassador through actively liaising with the faculty Academic Employability Champions, Lancaster University Students’ Union, societies and colleges, to seek new ways to engage with students to encourage them to commence their career planning journey.
  • Provide student perspectives to all aspects of our current work and engagement activities and actively contributing to future plans.
  • Gaining knowledge through initial training, ongoing support from staff, and development activities, of the graduate labour market and further stud opportunities.
  • Engaging with the evaluation and continuous quality improvement of our frontline services, making recommendations in discussion with line your manager.
  • Assisting with the delivery of careers events.
  • Participating in any relevant projects that enhances the Careers Service and its offering to students.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
 
  • You must be current Lancaster University student, working towards an undergraduate or postgraduate degree (taught or research) in any year of study.
  • A genuine interest and enthusiasm for helping Lancaster University students to make use of the resources and opportunities available to develop their employability skills.
  • To be proactive and curious, with a can-do attitude to finding solutions to enable peers to explore resources and take ownership of their future.
  • Excellent verbal and digital communication skills, able to confidently and accurately deal with queries in person and electronically, with the ability to demonstrate resources clearly and articulately.
  • Excellent written communication skills with ability to write engaging content, including blogs and articles for the Careers website.
  • To have a positive, and non-judgemental approach with the ability to relate to and engage with a diverse range of students from all backgrounds and at all levels of study
  • An awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusivity matters
  • Professionalism to represent the service and work effectively with diverse colleagues across the service and wider university.
  • The ability to work in line with the University’s confidentiality, data protection and GDPR policies
  • Good IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office.
