The role of Administrative Assistant will be based in the the Lancaster Medical School, which is a Department located within the Faculty of Health & Medicine. The Department delivers excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and research that impacts patient and public health outcomes locally, nationally and internationally.
 
The role will provide administrative support for a number of internal colleagues, which will cover academic, clinical academic, administrative staff and undergraduate medical students. The role may also liaise with external colleagues from across a number of local NHS trusts.
 
The role will work closely with the School Manager and Undergraduate Manager on a number of key administrative projects. 
 
Preferred start date: 2nd of June 2025
 
Expected end date: 22nd of August 2025
 
Weekly hours: 36.5 hours weekly
 
Location: On the Lancaster University campus; Remotely (in the UK) and at the premises of an external employer

Job Description

  • Lancaster Medical School is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Undergraduate Assistant to provide professional service support to the undergraduate programmes within the Medical School. 
  • You will have experience of Microsoft Office packages at and advanced level. 
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills are an advantage but more important is the attribute of willingness to learn and work flexibly becoming part of a committed team. 
  • Ideally you will have previous administrative experience in a higher education or NHS background. 
  • A proven team player you will be committed to integrating into a busy office environment, working closely with a wide range of colleagues.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential

  • Effective numeracy, literacy and word processing skills (GCSE Maths and English and ECDL, or equivalent).
  •  Experience of using a range of Microsoft Office packages at an advanced level.
  • Ability to work in a team and have a flexible approach to work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a variety of people and organisations whilst maintaining professionalism.
  • The ability to present information in an accurate and appropriate format.
  • Experience of prioritising workload to meet competing deadlines and provide the highest level of service.

Desirable

  •  Experience of NHS administrative or Higher Education processes in a busy office environment.

Key Information:

Training will be provided to support you in learning the skills required in this role. The professional skills you will develop working with the team will be highly transferable to the future graduate employment.
