An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the Lancaster Success Programme Student Advocate team. 

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and engaging leader to provide an authentic student voice to the LSP. As Lead Advocate, you will manage the Advocate team, meet regularly, complete assigned tasks and gather student feedback to be presented at termly Staff-Student meetings. An integral part of the LSP, the role of the Lead Student Advocate is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference across our community and develop great skills for the future.

Preferred Start Date: 22 May 2025 (Training to take place - TBC)
Expected End Date: Summer Term 2026
Working Pattern: Average of 7 hours per term. (Hours variable, however meetings usually take place on a Wednesday afternoon)

Job Description

  • To lead the Student Advocates.
  • Liaising with staff to represent the Student Advocates and foster a positive relationship between students and staff.
  • To act as an advocate for the Lancaster Success Programme, promoting its core values, opportunities and services and enhancing its reputation across campus. 
  • To support the continual development of a positive, LSP community in which students feel empowered. 
  • To share experiences of, and enthusiasm for the Lancaster Success Programme, specifically at activities throughout the year. 
  • To have good knowledge of Lancaster University and the Success Programme to be able to share this with other students on the programme.
  • To support the Student Success Team in gathering feedback to ensure the programme is meeting the needs of its students. 
  • To attend termly Staff-Student meetings to present an authentic student voice. 
  • To support face to face LSP activity such as social events, peer support and pre-arrival events where available. 
  • Create, manage, and maintain social media accounts directed at LSP students, such as Instagram.
  • To support with online activity including webinars and LSP related events. 
  • To work as part of a team and lead by example, delivering consistently good service.
  • To attend compulsory training sessions where required. 
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Student Success Team.

Person Specification

  • Enrolled as an Undergraduate Lancaster University Student.
  • A student on the Lancaster Success Programme.
  • A desire to liaise with students, staff members and external individuals.
  • Great knowledge of Lancaster University including the campus, systems, facilities, and student life.
  • Leadership qualities and drive.
  • Excellent face to face, telephone, electronic and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • Ability to solve problems and think creatively.
  • Flexibility in working a variety of different hours and adaptable to working with others on different tasks.
  • Must be able to display respect for others and be able to lead by example.
  • Commitment to the task in hand and display reliability, i.e. punctuality, getting tasks done and motivating yourself.
