Are you interested in research and how it makes a difference beyond academia? Do you have strong organisational skills and an eye for detail? Lancaster's Research Services is looking for a current student to help communicate and evidence how our research makes a difference. The role will be on a flexible part-time basis starting in Spring 2025 until December 2025.
 
The Research Services team is looking to appoint three Impact Support Officers to help capture and evidence the real-world impact of Lancaster University’s research. Focussing on a portfolio of high-impact projects, activities, and programmes, you will play a key role in supporting research and knowledge exchange assessment activities, working closely with the Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) Partnership Development Manager, Faculty Impact Development Managers, and key researchers.

 
Preferred start date: 5th of May 2025
 
Expected end date: 31st of December 2025
 
Interview date: 23rd of  April 2025
 
Weekly hours: Approx. 14 hours per week for a period of 6 months (during working hours from Monday to Friday, between 9am to 5pm)
 
Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

In this role, you will assist in identifying, gathering, and recording evidence of research and knowledge exchange impact, helping to develop high-quality case studies and reports. You will support the coordination of impact evidence, working with academics and professional services colleagues across the University, and contribute to communications with external partners and research beneficiaries to collect supporting information.

Main responsibilities include:
 
  • Assisting in the production of well-evidenced impact case studies by gathering and summarising relevant data.
  • Conducting online searches and supporting engagements with external collaborators to collect evidence of research impact, including analysing data, gathering feedback through surveys, and curation of provided testimonial evidence.
  • Supporting the collation of information and metrics for internal reporting, funding applications, and research assessment exercises.

Person Specification

 The successful candidates will be able to show:
 
  • Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis, with the ability to manage, interpret, and present findings to different audiences. (Essential)
  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification. (Essential)
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines. (Essential)
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with external collaborators and research end-users. (Essential)
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively with academic staff while maintaining a clear focus on objectives. (Essential)
  • Strong IT skills, with experience using a range of digital tools to support data management, reporting, and project coordination. (Essential)
  • Experience handling confidential information, with an understanding of Data Protection legislation. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of the research impact agenda, particularly in relation to REF2029. (Desirable)
  • Experience working in a research environment, preferably within Higher Education. (Desirable)
