The Global Summer Schools offer interactive learning experiences for international students from universities worldwide, with classes and field trips during the day, social activities in the evenings, and weekend trips around the UK.

Job title:  Global Summer Schools - Student Ambassador Leader

Rate of Pay: £11.94 + £1.44 Holiday Pay.

 

Working dates of the Global Summer Schools include Monday 7 July – Friday 25 July 2025 (session one) and Monday 25 August – Friday 12 September 2025 (session two). Successful candidates must be available to work flexible hours including daytime, evenings and weekends on a rotational basis. Work may be heavier during some weeks of the programmes and hours will be agreed with candidates individually.

 

Advertising end date: Tuesday 22 April.

Interviews:Expected to take place on Tuesday 29 April.

 
Initial training: Expected to take place on Friday 23 May.
 
Final briefing: Expected to take place on Thursday 3 July.

Job Description

MAIN DUTIES:  

Coordinate the daily administration for the Global Summer Schools, such as:   

  • Help timetabled sessions run smoothly (allocate shifts to a team of student-staff, communicate room changes to students and staff, proactively anticipate student and staff needs according to the schedule).
  •  Support student administration (answer student emails, sort large data sets to create student lists on Excel, record attendance, collect assignments, organise course materials, mail merge documents).
  • Raise purchase orders, data input, photocopy and other repetitive tasks. 
Coordinate events, including:
  • Book venues, travel, guest speakers, catering, music etc.
  • Help to design event activities
  • Set venues up and down
  • Attend events and supervising students and student-staff
Act as the first point of contact for student-staff and participants on the Global Summer Schools, such as:
  • Supervise students on field trips during the day, social activities in the evenings, and weekend trips around the UK.
  • Lead teambuilding activities, motivating, enthusing, and engaging groups of international students in course activities.
  • Organise any other areas of the programme that the Global Experiences Officer, Academic Coordinators or Global Experiences Assistant deem suitable to your skillset.

Person Specification

The following criteria are essential when applying for this role, and will be tested through your CV, covering letter and interview process. 

  • Has effective numeracy and literary skills (GCSE Maths and English, C grade minimum, or equivalent).
  • Experience of providing effective administrative support, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media platforms, preferably within higher education.
  • Has excellent communication skills in face-to-face, electronic, telephone and written communications, with attention to detail and the ability to communicate information clearly to people when English is not their first language.
  • Is able to prioritise workload according to multiple deadlines and can keep documents, office supplies and equipment organised.
  • Can work under high pressure and use initiative to problem-solve unexpected issues.
  • Ability and willingness to motivate team members and engage students in course activities.
  • Shows an interest in working in a multicultural environment and can adapt to working with a range of people on a range of tasks.
  • Is willing to take part in extra-curricular social events and can travel within the UK for field and weekend trips.  

The following criteria are desirable but not essential when applying for this role, and will be tested through your CV, covering letter and interview process. 

    • Experience of working in Higher Education especially on summer schools or English Language programmes.
    • Can organise stock and set up/down for events including lifting and carrying equipment and supplies
