Role & Department Overview

This Department is in need of up to two Research Assistants to work on a flexible part-time basis to support the 'Seaside Play' research project. The roles will include planning, design and implementation of a range of activities, including workshops with primary schools and developing exhibition materials 

Preferred start date: 10th of March 2025
 
Expected end date: 2nd of June 2025
 
Interview date: T.B.D
 
Weekly hours: 3.5 hours per week
 
Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

The role involves:

  • Administrative/Research support for working with seaside play resources at Lancaster Maritime Museum and taking these into a primary school.
  • Design and implementation of creative activities and workshops in the school and a beach workshop related to past, present, and future seaside play, encouraging social and environmental connection.
  • Person Specification

    The successful candidates should be able to demonstrate the following:

    • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
    • An interest in regional history and environmental issues
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to assist in delivering workshops to primary-aged children
    • Academic achievement in literary studies, creative writing or regional history
    Desirable Skills and Attributes 
    • Experience of working in a project team
    • Interest in seaside history or seaside-specific research
    • Social media experience and/or knowledge
    • Experience of delivering workshops to primary-aged children
    • Experience of delivering creative writing workshops to a public audience
    • Experience of designing workshops for the public
