Role & Department Overview

This position is not open to current Lancaster Undergraduate (UG) or Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students.

The Student Programme Administration Exams Team are currently recruiting a pool of Senior Invigilators to join our bank of staff supporting the administration of examinations for the 2025 assessment period that runs from 28 April to 20 June (at the latest).

This is an important position, and Senior Invigilators will be expected to quickly develop a comprehensive understanding of Lancaster University’s examination guidelines and procedures. Supported by a team of Assistant Invigilators, you will help to deliver a professional and consistent service that provides the right examination environment for our students.

Examinations take place across Lancaster’s Bailrigg campus, and you may be required to travel quickly between venues to ensure that examination schedules are adhered to.

Full and part-time applicants welcome. Previous experience within an educational establishment or as an Invigilator is desirable.

In addition to our Senior roles, we are also seeking main venue invigilators to support our senior roles, as well as invigilators to work with students with adapted exam requirements – this will primarily involve invigilating individual students on a one-to-one basis or invigilating a small group of students who require access to a computer.

Please submit an application via the Main Venue/Adapted Exam Arrangement advertisement if you would also like to be considered for one or both of these roles.

Key Information:

Invigilators are appointed on temporary contracts with no guarantee of hours.

The pay rate for the academic year is Spinal Point 11, which is currently £13.88 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay). This rate will increase in April, but the increased rates are not yet known.

There will be a group interview/training workshop on Wednesday 26th March, 15:00-16:30, and the completion of an online assessment will be required for both new applicants and returning invigilators.

Applications must include a CV and covering letter. For help and advice on covering letters:
