Litcraft is a multi-modal resource designed to re-engage children with reading through play. It connects reading the text outside the game world with exploration in Minecraft world builds corresponding to the literary map for a narrative (e.g. Treasure Island).  It was created by academics at Lancaster University and is led by Professor Sally Bushell in the Department of English Literature and Creative Writing. You can find out all about it at the newly designed website: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/litcraft/

This internship is for a total of 35-hours. The internship is centred on the launch of a major partnership build for Litcraft.  Litcraft has been in partnership with Minecraft Design Company, Blockworks (see https://www.blockworks.uk) for the last 18 months working on a large scale build for The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes with 6 embedded interactive narratives/ tasks.  This involves a huge map of Victorian London made in Minecraft.  This build will go live in the summer of 2025 on the Minecraft Marketplace where the anticipated audience is 4 million.

The internship role is two-fold:

  1. You will test the resource at Lancaster Boy’s Grammar and gather direct data and feedback from users.
  2. You will undertake research into how best to launch the new build to gain maximum publicity. This will involve working with the Press office at Lancaster; working with social media and designing a strategy to maximise interest; identifying key digital /gaming events for us to attend. If time and finances allow you will be directly involved in attending these events.
Please submit a CV (maximum of two sides) and a Cover Letter (maximum one side) both tailored to the role.
