This micro internship is for 30 hours in total (including 4 hours for training) and is aimed at students who may not have had any professional prior work experience and are looking for an opportunity that supports them to develop their employability skills.

We are offering an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience as an intern for a public engagement project in the Department of Linguistics and English Language. The successful candidate will support us in a series of events from Linguistics at Campus in the City, including publicity, event design and event delivery. They will work with six other academic staff and four PhD students to deliver five different stands at Campus in the City 2025.

Preferred start date:  03/03/2025
 
Expected end date: 30/04/2025  

 
Weekly hours: Approx. 4 hours a week but can be flexible

Job Description

Main Responsibilities 
 
  • Departmental induction and mandatory training
  • Training for Campus in the City event delivery with colleagues
  • Designing materials for activities, preparing equipment, and printing activity sheets
  • Designing publicity materials and posters for Campus in the City
  • Writing posts for department LinkedIn, Bluesky, Instagram before and after Campus in the City in collaboration with our department Publicity Officer
  • Campus in the City event delivery (11 April) including travel, setup, and tidy up

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
 
  • Knowledge of linguistics
  • Ability to communicate well with the public face-to-face
  • Ability to work well with colleagues
  • Ability to structure their own work and meet deadlines
  • Experience with designing posters and materials
  • Experience with creating social media posts in a professional setting
  • Basic computer literacy
