Role & Department Overview

We are looking for a part-time web developer for the ESRC Centre for Corpus Approaches to social Science (CASS), Lancaster University.  We offer a flexible contract suitable for students. CASS is one of the world’s leading research centres in corpus linguistics and was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in 2015. The centre specializes in applying corpus linguistic techniques to a number of research areas including sociolinguistics, education and social sciences.
 
The role is a part-time web developer (javascript, css, database, Linux server administration).
 
Preferred start date: 20th of January 2025
 
Expected end date: 31st of March 2025
 
Interview date: 16th of January 2025
  
Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

Main responsibilities:
 
  • You will work closely with members of the CASS to produce and edit high-quality interactive web content for the Centre’s key projects such as BNClab https://bnclab.lancs.ac.uk
  • You will work independently to create and update websites (front and backend)
  • You will use the most recent web technologies (javascript, css, database, Linux server administration)

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
 
  • The candidate needs to have knowledge of current web technologies such as javascript, css, php, database,and  Linux server administration.
  • They will be able to work with different data types: XML, json.
  • The candidate will have expertise in web optimization and scaling, ensuring websites perform efficiently and can handle increased traffic seamlessly.
  • They will be able to demonstrate previous experience with website development.
