Giving HOPE is a project based at Lancaster University’s Department of Sociology, soon to transition into a Community Interest Company (CIC). At the core of our offer are our co-produced HOPE Boxes—designed and created with women with lived experience the boxes are distributed to Health Trusts and Local Authorities across England to support mothers and infants separated due to safeguarding concerns. 

Role Overview

The Volunteer Development Intern will play a key role in expanding Giving HOPE’s reach and engagement across the University. You will work with the team to develop a volunteering programme for the project. This would include developing Giving HOPE Ambassadors within University departments and work with the Lancaster Award team to promote and recruit students to volunteering roles. 
 
This internship is ideal for someone passionate about social impact, with strong communication and organisational skills, and looking to gain experience in project development, volunteer management and community engagement.

Working Hours: Flexible 7 hours week (70-hours in total)

Job Description

Working with the Giving HOPE team you will contribute to the following: 

1. Giving HOPE Ambassador Network Development.
  • Identify and recruit student ambassadors from a range of University departments.
  • Develop resources and guidelines to support ambassadors in promoting Giving HOPE’s mission and initiatives and help recruit volunteers.
  • Organise regular check-ins with ambassadors to maintain engagement and gather feedback.

2. Volunteering Opportunities
  • Collaborate with the Ambassador network and the Lancaster Award team to create and promote volunteering opportunities within Giving HOPE.
  • Develop systems for volunteer support, role descriptions and training materials for volunteers.
  • Coordinate with the Giving HOPE team to identify areas where volunteers can support operations and outreach.
  • Organise events, workshops, or meetings to raise awareness about Giving HOPE and recruit volunteers.
  • Work to build partnerships within the University to increase student involvement in the project.

3. Project Administration
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteers, ambassador activities, and event attendance.
  • Prepare regular updates for the Research and Development Director on progress and outcomes of ambassador and volunteer initiatives.

  • Event or Project Management Skills: in planning, organising, and executing events, workshops, or recruitment drives.

  • Project Management Skills: Ability to manage project timelines and deliverables effectively.
