Become a Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Student Ambassador Leader!

We are now recruiting for our 2024/25 Student Ambassadors Leader and are inviting all current students within the departments listed below, both UG and PG, If your department is not listed below, this means we already have enough Ambassadors to represent subjects for this department and therefore, will not be accepting applications for those. 

  • School of Global Affairs 
  • Criminology  
  • Social Work 
  • Media and Cultural Studies 
  • Sociology 

Who We’re Looking For 

We're looking for dedicated Lancaster University students who are motivated to take an active role in shaping the future of the Ambassador Programme and taking it to the next level. This opportunity is perfect for those who have strong communication skills, a desire to further develop their leadership skills and an interest in gaining valuable work experience in a professional environment. If you're enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to representing our university with pride, we want you on our team! 

Even if you don’t meet the criteria for all the points below, we would still welcome an application from you. If you have had no prior experience, skills developed in school and in other jobs are quite often transferrable, so you don’t need to have had direct experience with everything listed below. As well as this, the Student Ambassador Programme is committed to supporting you in your development, therefore, in any areas you are not confident in, we can provide lots of training and support for this!

Successful candidates must be available to attend the training day on Saturday 25 January 2025 (times TBC but it will be all day) and be available to work 3 out of the 4 Undergraduate Offer Holder Events on the following dates: 

  • Saturday 01 February 2025 
  • Saturday 22 February 2025 
  • Saturday 22 March 2025 
  • Saturday 05 April 2025 

We will try our best to allocate you to your 3 preferred dates, however, this may not be possible due to availability.  

For any dates not in term time, we are able to cover travel and provide accommodation when needed

Accommodation is on a first-come, first-served basis

Location: You will be based on campus, with optional opportunities to travel across the UK to various events

Job Description

Your main responsibilities will be to: 

  • Represent your department and Lancaster University to the highest possible standard, engage with prospective students, and be a vital part of our campus community.
  • Supervise and support Student Ambassadors during shifts.
  • Consistently deliver outstanding service for visitors, lead by example and encourage the Ambassador team to do the same
  • Provide excellent customer service when dealing with student and visitor queries, whether face to face, by telephone, email or web
  • Provide administrative support for the FASS Events Team or faculty departments
  • Coach and assess ambassadors on their ability to deliver great quality campus tours, as well as delivering your own outstanding campus and subject specific tours to prospective students and other visitors
  • Represent your course and the wider University as a ‘Unibuddy’
  • Host and deliver student life webinars, participate in online events such as live stream campus tours and take part in student Q&A sessions
  • Play a key role in the delivery of Student Ambassador training 
  • Assist with any other duties as may reasonably be required by the FASS Events Team

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

Education

  • You must be registered as a current Lancaster University degree student (Essential) 

Essential Skills & Abilities 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Desire and ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Excellent use of initiative, able to solve problems and think creatively
  • Engaging personality and ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and ages
  • Excellent knowledge of Lancaster University including campus, systems, facilities and student life
  • Comfortable with delivering presentations and public speaking, including delivering presentations via online platforms Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular use of Word, Excel, email 

Desirable Skills & Abilities

  • Experience of working in a customer-facing environment and providing excellent customer service
  • Experience supervising and/or mentoring others and providing advice and guidance
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to delegate, use initiative and motivate others
  • Knowledge and ability to use online platforms, such as Unibuddy
